Motherboard

What's the best motherboard out there right now? Mainly for medias such as movies, music, and gaming. Price would be $200 or less. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I like ABIT. Never had any problems and they come loaded (for a price of course) but for around $125 or less you can get one that will support the new Athlon 64 bit deals and for $50 more one that will support the new Intel's.
There are many other good ones in the same class and everyone tends to have a favorite. Some other ones I've used and liked are Soyo & Intel.

Most of the parts are still new. I just want to upgrade the Motherboard and a new tower. Looking for a range of $300 or less including Motherboard + Tower + power suppyl of 400+ watt...

what CPU do you have to put in this mobo? gotta know that so we know what platform to look at
as for brand, ABIT hands down

why upgrade your motherboard if ur keeping the same stuff in it?
Your not gonna get alot of more media stuff out of a new mobo. some sata ports from cdroms or hard drives, built in audio, the option to use a memory card reader if u buy one. Just little things like that.

The current one I'm having right now is about to dying on me... and I'm planning to upgrade everything. So I start with the Motherboard first then move on later on with others.

First problem, cpu is a 423
a good mobo allowing u to upgrade well is a 478

the 423 socket is older and is for 400mhz bus P4s only i think, maybe some 533.
the 478 allows u to use 533 or 800mhz bus P4s, also has more cache on the chip, the performance is MUCH better.

IC, so for now do you think I should upgrade my mobo or should wait and get the new p4 with new motherboard?

From professional sites, and people who have been in the field for a long time, they remain on top.
Anstyl, you have a first generation Pentium 4, several generations old.
Front side bus
Memory speeds
pin count for the socket
All 3x very important things that changed with the versions of Pentium 4s.
Decision must be made...either replace current mobo with one compatible with your existing hardware, and run it til it dies.
-or-
Decide to upgrade primary guts completely...new mobo, new CPU, new RAM.

I'm very happy with my Asus.
Replaced a defective Abit with it.
Its all a crap shoot theres bound to be a percentage of Defective parts in any company's Line. Thats just the way it is...

everyon mobo maker seems to get a period of bad time with caps or whatever. abit had one not too long ago, epox seems to be getting close, msi had a long one. Maybe asus had a bad bit or on the way to, but iI'm staying away.
Did u ever post back in that thread on teh locked agp.pci bus?
