Weird Problem

Was trying to fix one of my bosses i work with computer last night and i couldn't figure out was wrong....i booted up his computer and tried to log in under his name on windows xp home edition it would log me on and flash the wallpaper for a split second and then it would log him out and go back to the logon screen....i tried to boot off his dell xp cd but the bad thing was he couldn't remember his admin password so i can't get into the recovery console is there anything else i can try other then reformatting it?

Hitting the F8 key just after the bios screen while booting will take you to the boot menu where you can select safe mode. In safe mode you should be able to select another user instead of Administrator.
Once in Windows use msconfig to 'hopefully' disable any startup apps that may be causing this.
Sounds more like there is a virus.
Take the drive out and hook it to another PC running XP and scan with an updated antivirus program if the first option I posted doesn't help.

yeah i tried to get into safe mode and even tried to get into his wifes username and it did the same thing so yeah i will have to try taking the harddrive out and do a virus scan on it thanks for the help Norm

No problem, welcome.
btw - If you get it to boot windows again, you can change the admin password from any account with admin priviledges. Might want to do that to be ready for the next time something goes wrong.
