New LCD Ordered

Post by Dunster »

Alright, I did a TON of research over the past 48 hours. I think I got the best monitor for my needs. I got the following....

ViewSonic VP171b (their Professional Series)
17"
DVI-D and analog
16ms response
500:1 contrast
260 nit brightness
Integrated power supply (no brick on the floor)
160 degree viewing angles

Ordered from MonitorsDirect for $500 with 2 day shipping.

Everything I looked at ranked the ViewSonic as very high. Even better than Sony LCDs. I really thought I wanted a Sony, but after my research, ViewSonic ranked better.

Now, I'm just waiting for the UPS man!

Your vid card has DVI output, correct?

Actually, I already have a 17" LCD that I am using. It's a two year old Dell. Low end model. I can't remember the exact model number. No DVI on it, and I think it around a 25ms or more response. I'm going to move that one to my kid's computer and replace their 17" CRT.

Yes, on the DVI output. I'm running an ATI 9800 Pro with DVI on it.

And, by the way Cat, thank you for the input yesterday. I always value what you have to say. You helped steer my away from the Sony and into the ViewSonic. Good advice!
