Well, I don't know if this was talked about before on this forum, but i have a question about msmsgs.exe
I saw on the internet that problems with this program are quite known.
However, there is one thing I don't understand.
When i end the process in the taskmanager, it stops, and right after that, i remove messenger out of my program files folder. But somehow I can remove everything except for one file, a dll file called: msgsc.dll
it says its in use, even when msmsgs isnt listed in the taskmanager.
I also have the security Task Manager program, but it isnt really helpfull either. I have tried msconfig with ' run', but it didnt work, i have also a antispyware program called spysweeper, it works great, but since the messenger program isnt spyware (believe me, im sure), its not very useful right now. Plz help me, so I can save up memory and also dont get angry everytime messenger pops up, with a contact talkin to me, while i didnt even know i was online! (i have also unchecked those boxes in messenger itself, but it doesnt help either).

I want that g*dd*mn Windows Messenger off my pc!!! It's a ridiculous program! And I dont need it, because im always using MSN messenger.

By the way, I have windows XP Home on 2.8 Ghz with 512 MB Ram.

Start Button\Run and put this in the Run Dialog & press OK:

either what Tony said, or you can also just go into properties of the messenger program and tell it to stop loading on startup.. Then go into Outlook and/or Outlook Express (if you have both, do it for both) and go into the options and find the messaging component and disable MSN messenger there as well.. It will always load until you disable it from any/all places or directly uninstall it as Tony posted.

Me, personally, I have XP pro and I just went into local group policy and enabled the policy to "disable MSN Messenger from running." problem solved. Unfortunately though, XP home doesn't have group policy settings.

Another alternative is, if you're not too hot for Spysweep, Lavasoft Adaware software - has a couple of nice add-ons, one of which is to stop Messenger?
