I think there are two expansion packs. Road to Rome, and Secret weapons of WWII. There are many mods for the game though. Google mods for BF 1942. I would have to say that Desert Combat would be the best mod for 1942.

DC is probably the most popular mod out there. Another mod out there that is really good is a mod called Forgotten Hope. Very well done! :thumb:

I havn't been into modding 1942 so i have no idea about much of this. My question is can you still play the original game after modding it? or does it overwrite too much stuff? Ive been looking for some good online action, BFV seems dead as of late...

You can still play the original.

Think of the mods as another new game.

The best mods are Desert combat http://www.desertcombat.com/ based on the gulf war.

Forgotten Hope which is an awesome WWII realism mod http://forgottenhope.bf1942files.com/main.html .

If you want to play the regular maps and the regular game but with a real treat for sights and sounds, Merciless Creations is hands down the best addons mod out there. http://www.planetdungeonsiege.com/merci ... ns/bf1942/

You install this and you'll be totalling amazed at the sights and sounds you can play right on any regular BF1942 server. If your not intending on playing in clan matches this is a most definite addon you should get. You can still play the other mods mentioned above and Merciless also has a uninstaller, in case you want to remove it, but I wouldn't know why anybody would want to remove it unless they're gonna go clanning.

I can vouch for Merciless. Been using it since it first came out. Great add on for vanilla BF :thumb:

Just make sure you download the V.4 its the one that is 288MB and all the texture packs below, looks like six of them. install the 288MB first than add the rest, the order don't matter.

I know you'll like it, have fun.

Forgotten Hope is by far the largest mod. The sheer number of maps and vehicles is amazing. And historically accurate too. But for me, it is a tad too realistic. It has turned BF nearly into a realism game. That is cool and all, but I still want a little bit of action. The only downfall that I see to it is that you have to dive to your belly to get your sights to "narrow in". I think they should be wider when running, but not that wide.

Eod is great. DC is great. New one, DC realism is fun. Galactic conquest is a star wars feel. They have a race one called interstate 98 or something. BF Pirates is a hoot. Not good for longterm play maybe, but sure if fun the first few weeks.

My favorite is Battlegroup 1942. Seems to me to be just the right blend of historical accuracy and realism, while still keeping the fast paced kill n maim feeling of the original. The tanks are better, way better. Unfortunately, since Forgotten Hope has came out, BG42 has not been around much. It does support co-op play, so you can check it out yerself.

Here is a question for you BF players. In your multiplay area, you have the option of choosing your network speed. Has anyone seen one of these settings help them with lag? I have lag all the time. My machine is more than big enough and fast enough. I am saavy enough to know how to tweak my xp pro machine proper like. You know, bare minimum of services or app runnng. Bug free. Proper drivers. Defragged. What you should do. Optimized my ip stuff. Took awhile but all the speed tests seem to confirm I am above 80%. I have 256x512 dsl. I usually ping 40-120, depending on site.

The lag is often "lurchy" or "choppy", but the real killer is that I am just behind everyone else. The game may play fairly smooth and all, but when I think I should be getting a definate kill, I am already dead and do not know it. I have tried the network connection speed option of both isdn and dsl, with no difference. I can't figure out why I will see a guy and shoot before he see's me, yet he kills me it seems instantly. This happens consistently. At lan's I am much better than that, so it is not purely skills. There is some kind of a lag issue I am fighting here.

I have talked to my isp, they have tested about everything we can think of. On the net and ftp stuff, I am really good. It is in this game, in the last year I guess, that it has been bad. I play with some buds who are on the same isp as me, and they have same ping as me. Yet they don't get the problem. I have changed drivers, changed nics, changed video, changed ram, you know about everything I can think of.

I am out of ideas. Anyone?

later.
