CD/DVD+RW drive won't detect disk...

Post by Bighunk »

Hey all,

My sister is having a problem with their new HP Pavilion PC's CD/DVD burner drive, as it seems it will not detect any disks (blank, burned, or even original ones).

I'm here visiting them, and have checked here & there to see if anything out of place caught my eye, and and all the settings seem to be the way they should. I'm definetly no eXPert, but am probably the one who knows the most about computers in the family... so I thought if I posted this S.O.S. thread, one of you Speedguide members could help me get this thing working right.

My niece needs to burn a music cd for her school's last-day celebration tomorrow. Oh, and I'm here visiting from out of town, but will be heading back a bit later tonight... no pressure though ...just thought I'd mention that as well. :p Thanks in advance!

The PC's specs:
HP Pavilion a250n
2.6 GHz P4
512 MB DDR
120 GB HDD
CD/DVD+RW
CD ROM
Windows XP Home Edition

hmmm sound odd there... Dont really know if this will work but it is worth a shot...i would uninstall the device and let windows reinstall it...easy to do...

Just press the windows key + pause break that will bring you to system properties go to the hardware tab and the go to device manager the dvd burner should be located under the cd/dvd roms highlight the one you are looking for right click it and uninstall it... then restart the PC and let it install the drivers that should hopfully be it....

good luck...
