A quick WTF UPS

My UPS kicks in as I'm in my car heading to work, it puts the server in stand by. I get to work and can't login to the network. I call Sprint and bitch(had a few other problems lately), there sending a new bridge. I get home and look at the logs and the bridge. No nic connection to the bridge. I hit even viewer and find nothing really odd. Come to find out the ups kicked in batt mode, the strange part is that nothing else lost electricity.

Any ideas? Should I send the ups back for warranty?

What brand...call 'em up! If it's APCC...their support is awesome! Great people, 100% located in the good ol US right in Rhode Island.

What connector you using, serial or USB? I've had USB act funky on me..I try to only use serial.

Latest version of their software you're using?

It's a Conexant usb. This thing had great reviews. I yanked that power cord out and ran the system for 30 minutes, all was well.

Maybe there's a problem in the house wiring?

I'd have a hard time blaming the wiring. If AC was inadequate (brown out), totally out (black out), or too high (surge/spikes)...the UPS should do it's job, and return to normal once your AC is within specified parameters.

Did it toss your server into Stand By right away? Or do you think it was after the predetermined time period had passed with inadequate AC feed.

Yeah I'm having a hard time believing its the wiring as well. Don't know if it went into stand by right a way. I wasn't there and the logs didn't show anything other than battery needed to be replaced. I let the server run for 30 minutes on batt power last night to test the batteries so I can't say the batt is bad. This is just odd, its never done it before

picasso,

it sounds like a software problem. not a hardware problem. ups is working fine. something is the trigger.

i'll constipate on this issue today and see what i can come up with. i have a belkin ups and it works flawlessly. don't know anything about your generic no name brand. but i'll see what i can find

Not knowing other than APCC brand battery units...are you using 3rd party software with this unit? Or Windows native battery unit support?

I didn't like the software they sent because of its limitations on shut down time. I'm using windows native power support.

Here is the link to the unit

Sid i have had issues with house current that made my 2 APC ups units go into battery power, once i even had the power company come out and check it. the tolerances they allow are pretty broad for my likeing :(

i even called APC once and they walked me through changing some settings for the sensitivity of the units, seemed to help somewhat.

i know my new house needs a larger electrical panel and soon i hope to run dedicated breakers into my computer room, i have pooped the breaker running 3 PC's and 3 montiors a few times, so something isn't right.

You know what I think happened? I think that there was a power fluctuation and the UPS kicked in(it was 105 deg here yesterday). I also beleive that the default settings for power options were to strict and when the power drop it put the box in stand by. I have now disabled the standby feature.

I pulled the power cord out momentarally last night and it stuck the box in standby which kills the nic so no connections are possible.
