Some of you may know that the Dalai Lama is visiting Vancouver right now and I believe he is working his way across Canada. There was a big conference to ask him questions and here what he had to say. He made the evening news but wasn't the only one. A
good
christian group took it upon themselfs to harass everyone who want to attend the conference.
"YOU MUST REPENT!" they constantly screamed.
Yours is the wrong religion blah blah you are going to hell blah blah bull crap
It was truely pathetic and very sad that would have to piss all over something that doesn't even concern them. Not to mention the pride and arrogance they showed

That is pretty sad.... I bet they're from the states.

(j/k)
My friend was driving around Sheraton in downtown few days ago (maybe yesterday?) and he said he might saw the Dalai Lama with another monk while this cameraman was interviewing him.... the wierd thing was, he said, there wasn't any crowd around.

I wouldn't be surprised if many people here(as in Vancouver) wouldn't know what he looked like.
If I saw him I wouldn't stick around, I'd just be like " Hey theres the Dalai lama, cool" and keep walking. If he is walking around trying to enjoy himself I think he should be left alone. If he was at a conference or something then I may approach to ask him a question.
It will be intresting to see China's reaction to all of this since they already issued a warning for Martin not to meet with Dalai.

Canada does have free speech, but why do an extreme Chritian group have to try and ruin something that doesn't concern them.
If those Christain groups started bombing cities they would be no better then those Muslims.
Canada's speech is just as free as U.S.
If someone where to troll a thread he would get flamed and depending what he/she said banned. How is that free speech? it is the samething.

Hello??? I said a group, I didn't say every Christian. Do you guys consider yourself a group? if you do then I am sorry for not being specific enough. I personally consider Christians larger then a group as a whole, more of a ethnicity ( can't think of a proper word) except you don't have to belong to any particular race.

Debating this is like flogging the dead horse that has been already beaten here for the past years and years. It's old.
Either way, many people ruin everyone else's **** in this world. That's life. Get over it. PETA ruins ****. Muslims ruin ****. Christians ruin ****. Gays ruin ****. Everyone has a cause and everyone has to show up at events and ruin them the best they can. Get off the bandwagon that has circled this place pretty hard for the past couple months.
Oh... and this place is privately owned and can be moderated as much as needed. This place is not a democracy. It is Philips Kingdom. Sorry, Cho, but that was a pretty dumb comparison. Not even close to "the samething".

I think a few here are missing the point.....I'm sure most Christians wouldn't be out in full force, verbally attacking the Dalai Lama, who, by the way, is NOT a fundamentalist (he is their God)...While those who are attacking him, are......
I would also add that those who are, (attacking him) are not using good judgment in practicing their own faith....and in the words of MountianMan (kinda if I get his gist).....have crossed the same line that fundamentalists of any religion have....
I would be more than happy to elaborate on that if anyone is really interested..

So if something is private it doesn't have to abide by American Law...I understand.

Which Christian group are we talking about?

Ummm...yes, of course it does..Unless your talking freedom of speech here.
If that's the case, then view this place just like you would any business...
Other than that...you have not broken any rules with this thread...carry on.

I know
I was just sticking up for my comparsion.
Those people were trolling the conference.
Roody, it was a group of Christains not a particular sect or whatever a real side group would be called. It was probably a family and some friends who took it upon themselfs to save everyone soul and try to convert people that were attending the conference. A group as in a gang or buddies.

It's not really surprising, evangelicals are like that. That's a central point in their belief system. However, if the event was taking place on private property then they were probably tresspassing, and the police should've removed them at that time. If, however, they were outside the venue in the public areas then there's nothing for it, tolerance means you have to put up with annoying people yelling their beliefs. That's what being tolerant is all about. Being passive in the face of aggressiveness. That takes real strength. It's easy to start yelling back. It's not anywhere near as easy to not do so.

Yes, I agree with your statment. It is way easier to give into being provoked then to humbly take it and turn the other cheek.
It took place Pacific Collsum which is privately owned...but outside the building is a public park where the "protesters" were. I Just felt it was done in bad taste.

I'm not athiest, I believe in a God but I don't go to church and I don't believe that God is the only God. I have no problem believing that Buddah, Allah and whoever else exisit. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to find out God is the same as all the others.
When I die I hope to find out the truth and when I do I will ready face whatever consequence that awaits me without fear.

I'm sure you're a nice person and all but you may want to work on your understanding of religion a little.
I'll just offer some basic pointers, then point you somewhere where you can get a bit of an understanding and not look like you're utterly ignorant. I mean, I'm sure you're not, but we don't want other less patient people to get that impression.
First of all- last time I checked, Buddha wasn't a god. Indeed, if memory serves me correctly, Buddhism don't involve the belief in a deity at all. Buddhism is a collection of teachings from a Hindu by the name of Siddhartha Gautama, who was most defintely a man. He's rather well documented, anyone who doesn't believe in him is probably a tad foolish.
Next, last time I checked, Allah is to the Christian god as the Christian god is to the Jewish god. Why don't you try pronouncing 'Allah' and 'YHWH' together? I'll give you a little help, 'Yahweh' is how YHWH is often spelt to make pronounciation easier. Can you see any similarities? I'll give you a clue, we all believe in the same god. We also know they're the same god. The debate is who's right and who's following a paedohpile and muderer rather than the son of god and whether Jesus really was the son of god or not.
Anyhow, basic education concluded, here's a wonderful unbiast source for you:
http://www.religioustolerance.org
Take the time to at least read the basic overview of each main religion/faith, you'll find it makes things much clearer.

What do you mean by "he is their God" ?
The Dalai Lama is not their God? They do not worship him like a God.

I suppose you could only take part of the quote...I'm sure most here, understood what I was talking about. To the Tibetian people, they consider him, "god like".
He is a major spiritual leader of his faith and to his country he's exiled from.
Hope this clears this up for you.
