Ok....here is my issue...
I have (2) PCs that I want to be able to share files, printer sharing and internet as well(if possible).
I have in the past been able to do this using routers (Linksys and Speedstream) but seem to have issues with them burning out after a year or less. So what I have done is purchased a crossover cable and want information as to how to setup each computer so they may see each other across the network.
Here is some added info:
My main PC has two NIC installed (one directly connected to my cable modem) and the other connected to the NIC in the 2nd PC. I have run the network wizard but neither computer is able to see one another....IS THERE SOME OPTION THAT I HAVE MISSED??? Any help will be greatly appreciated ......

I hate to recommend it but the easiest way would be to setup ICS for your Cable NIC. Doing that will enable DHCP for the second PC to get an IP address, gateway address, and DNS address. That way you don't have to deal with setting everything up with static addresses.

Well I did try this as well but I continue to get the same error message which is:
An error occured while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled.
The dependency service or group failed to start.

What is this and what step or option am I missing???

I have numerous amounts of Entry Level Routers, and the all perform well.

I would keep buying Routers. They Go these days for $20.

ICS is a nice touch to the Windows OS. However it was developed years ago. I do not think that Broadband Internet and similar situation was taken into account at the time of the development. Even Microsoft sells Cable/DSL Routers for the purpose of Broadband Internet connection sharing.

ICS is a good choice to share Internal DialUp Modem between two computers it becomes a long term liability when used otherwise. It might work for a while and then will start to drive you "Crazy".

Question

How the hell are you burning up routers so often? Is it plugged into a UPS or wall outlet/power strip?

I've had the same Linksys for over 2 years and haven't had on ioda of an issue. All my pc's and my laptop and peripherals are connected to UPS's.
