Google and Forums

Post by Norm »

I love google, so don't get me wrong here.
I have a pet peeve with some (a lot) of the search results though.

Too many forum threads come up now when doing searches.

Sometimes a forum has the answer, so it's not all bad. But wouldn't it be nice if google would make a separate page to show forum searche results instead of lumping them in with the results from a search?

I hate searching and having to read all sorts of useless forums to find my answer!

This morning I was reading a thread in software asking about slimbrowser, and popups. Not too familiar with slimbrowser I decided to search using google, and "slimbrowser" as the search word.

Low and behold the very first result was a direct link to the thread in software (SG) that I was reading lol

That's for sure, and it's great that SG is still loading fast.
And I also like to find the answers on forums - you can learn a lot more than you wanted.

slim browser -forum -forums -discussion

Norm, use the exclusionary - before the terms forums, forum, discussion, and comment. That usually works for me when I want to exclude forums from google search results.

I just retested and it works.

Do a search for broadband tweaks. You'll see results that link to forums. Now add in the -forum -forums to your search. they are gone. hope this helps.

My first result was the sb home page. Have you been playing around with advanced options and junk?

forums are still .html

I dont ever have that problem, and whenever I need "support" I edit my string or search under Google Groups.

for example:
I wonder how to contact some mexican pharmacies -using google groups
