I'm a total newbie on this so please educate me.

All I know is higher megapixel is better but by how much?

Having a LCD on the camera is good and battery life is important as well.....

Optical zoom in is better than digital zone in...I think...

Educate me please. :)

The Higher the mega pixs the better print quality on larger prints or blow ups

Optical zoom is far Superior then D-zoom
Having a lcd is a must (most do)
NIMH batteries are the way to go (after market changer and batts are cheep 20-50$ locally)

Id stick with the name brands
I like my Olympus alot takes great pics. I like how Olympus Builds there cams they feel Strong but are still Sleek and small Dropped mine quite a few times still works great

Also Canon makes some great cameras

Now what to buy Depends on your needs id say a 2 mega pixel is great for posting on the web or small prints 100$ or less Range

Price wise theys days id scope up a 3 or 4 Meg cam (250-350
If ya wanna do some high quality prints and have improved feachers (sp)

When i was looking I just went to bestbuy and compusa Played around with the cams found one i like went home and bought it online and saved 30 bucks :)

What about max resolution? Does that have anything to do with quality or just the size of the picture?

So ~2MP is good for posting on web and 3-4MP is good for printing the pictures out and putting it on display?

What about video? Do most digital camera nowaday have movie mode? In which format? (WMP or QuickTime ? )

Oh questions questions... :o

Resolution depends on how many megapixels the camera has. A 3 megapixel camera is able to print sharp 11x8 (standard size printer paper) photos, I think that's around an 1800x1400 image. I have never printed a picture that large on my 3 megapixel camera, and never will. Huge drain on your printer ink, too.

2MP is great for posting pictures online. Good for printing on 4x6 glossy paper too.

You can get a Canon PowerShot S45 for around $350 online. 4 megapixels, 3x digital zoom, and can record video with sound. I recently bought one...VERY nice.

I just sold my Olympus D-550 Zoom ... which was a 3 megapixel camera. I enjoyed it very much.

I am replacing it with THIS ... an Olympus C-5000 Zoom ... 5 megapixel camera.

It is selling for about $370.00 shipped online.

You can find it here at BUTTERFLY PHOTO

You should fully charge them prior to using them for the first time....

The eveready batteries I use..Will hold a charge for a month in my Cam Bag without using them..

It should be on the packaging, the details of the charge..If not just do a search for the battery type and charger on the net...All kinds of sites for that type of thing... :)

Cheers Spice.... ;)

NICE camera!!! $370 is a great price. 5 megapixel makes extremely crisp, 35mm quality 8x10's. :)

Hey, I've noticed alot of the new cameras are using .mov for the default movie mode. What's up with that??? My father in law just bought a new digital cam (here: kodak camera )and sent his sister a movie that she couldn't open on her end, and neither of them knew why. Quicktime is great quality video, but the player is not the most commonly installed player user-wise. I would think that .mpg would be more universal.
