Do you know what the magic port, packet which ever is to wake up the other pc. I have 2 computers both are linked on the dlink 604 router, with 2 same adapters. Dlink DFE-530TX cards. Everything is dlink for networking.

The second computer is completely off. I would like to test this WOL. Both cards came with WOL wire, I have install them on both computers myself.

You need WOL software to do this - something like OpenManage, Tivoli, or OpenView

Didn't think WOL used is the target is COMPLETELY turned off - thought it had to do with power mgmt...wouldn't sw have to be running on the target machine?

As long as the PC has power, if enabled the NIC can bring turn on the PC.
bear in mind that the power stiwtch on most moden pc's is just a software witch anyway, when you press it - the computer boots. If there is power, the PC can be turned on with WOl if enabled in the BIOS and on the network card.

WOL enabled NIC have a bios chip. Most also support PXE boot.

That's cool. Computer is off, but lights are on in the back of the NIC the too green lights thats because of the router connection to both computers. If I turn router off the lights are off also. Anyway I got it to work I think it's awsome. I can turn my computers on from another pc in the room. With custom port.

All I need to figure out is how to view my first computer on this computer. Thanks for the help all.
