right now i only got sattelite because cable or dsl cant come out where i live.
the funny thing is they have a cable line about a block away from my house. I was thinking of contacting comcast or a dsl company see if they could run a line.
Would they do that or no there not allowed cuz im fed up with this sattellite stuff. may be faster then dial up but it still stinks.
anyone ever have a company do this and if so which ones also which company should i call to get a cable or dsl line to come to my house i prefer cable
i live at imlay city michigan, 48444 incase anyone needs it. Thanks a head of time.

Got any friends by you with cable? Wireless link! Cheaper than the satellite equipment you have!

Youd have to get the antennas up where they could "see" each other no trees or other obstacles in the way. The wireless system near my office is unusable to us just do to the lack of just that.
Our sat system has been slow and seeing packet loss recently now that I checked so Ill be making a phone call to them shortly.
Be sure to read my reply in the tweaking section as your Direcway sofftware is out of date...

The cable company will only run a line by your house if it is economically feasible for them. IE: they can make money on that line quickly. They might do it if YOU paid for the line.
As for DSL, if you are more than 3 miles from a central office you are out of luck, unless the phone company puts in a repeater. Then the above holds, because the phone company won't put in a repeater for one person. Here you probably can't buy that one.
Looks like you are stuck with satellite unless someone puts up a wireless system near you.

It all depends on how far away the last run of the cable plant is, and how many homes will be fed by that new run. If its only you, I highly doubt they will run it. It would have to be able to feed at least a couple more homes before they would even think about it unless you paid (you dont wanna do that, your lookin at several g's).

if its what i think it is then it ends about a block away , 2 streets away and houses are flying up like crazy so i assume within a year at least 10 or more houses will be up. so you think if i told them that they might do it? would i just call and be like hello i am requesting a cable line?
people by where i live are all old people or hillbillys so i don't think there gonna start a wireless link. Is a cable line like a big black line kinda like a telephone line but big and bulky. And somewhere around there is like a grey like circle box kind of like a trash can.
lil confused sense being out with hilbillys is a little wierd.

look for a black line with a droop---------\____/--- kinda like that on one side or the other of the telephone poles. I had some good pictures that I will link you to if I find em.
Two blocks would be an easy run if the required equipment was close. Negotiate!

When you say there's a "cable line" about a block from your house...do you mean that your neighbor has the service or that the main cable line runs by you? Just because it runs by you does not mean that you can be serviced by it. The other question I would have is- do you live in an unincorporated area of town? If so, the city you live in may have a franchise agreement with the cable company, but most unincorporated areas of cities don't fall under the franchise. Therefore, they would have no legal obligation to offer service to you. The only way to defeat this would be to get a county-wide franchise agreement. Odds are the cable company won't sign that because the customers are spread out few and far between.

it stops about a block away and dont come by my house or i would have cable. all they got to do is run it down 1 street then the street to my house.
sense there building tons of houses liek i said you think that they would. but the thing is the roads are dirt and there very long roads.
