My friend can access
http://www.ufl.edu/ on his computer, but on mine it just stalls and then says page not found. I even tried to ping
http://www.ufl.edu, but they all just timed out. Uh.. What's the deal?? I'm... blocked.. from the site or something. It's really strange.
Any help? I can get to all other pages just fine (obviously..I'm posting here heh

)
Thanks,
Grul

Apparently you are blocked or rather your IP address is. I'm getting through fine right now.

Are you using any DNS caching apps? Clear your hosts file and your DNS cache, start - run and type:
ipconfig /flushdns
Then try again, also what firewall are you using.

This is the weirdest thing I've EVER seen. I tried the run command, but I still can't access the site. This is a real problem! I can't even check my mail or get to class sites. Any help would really be appreciated. I'm using Zone Alarm for my firewall, but I just shut it down and tried to access the site and I still couldn't! What's the deal?

I last accessed the site about a week ago.. Then since then it was "down." That was until I found out my friends could access it!
I'm REALLY confused. I have installed some of the web tweaks from this site, but I'm pretty sure (99% positive) I installed those like three weeks ago.. Well before any of this weird stuff happened.
Any ideas?

Okay, I've narrowed the problem to my cable modem. As if that helps. Here's what happened:
I used to have a router in my apartment that split the cable connection wirelessly to three computers -- mine and my two roomate's. We used to be able to access the UF site just fine.
Okay, fast forward to today...
Router has turned to crap (have to send it back to Linksys and wait for them to send a new one). Now we just use the modem in my room via an ethernet cable (tho I tried USB which worked just as well).
Now I can't access UF's website. Now, you might think it's some strange thing with either my computer or the cable jack in my room. Nah. Checked both. My friend's laptop can get to UF site via other connections (wirelessly)... so I hooked up the cable modem to his laptop -- no luck! We took the modem and the laptop into the living room (where the modem used to be plugged in w/ the router) -- still no luck. We can surf the net, download, etc. Just can't access this one site (and everything else under its domain). So it's not my computer or his... not a registry thing or anything like that. It's our... modem????
What is still strange is that the modem used to allow us to connect to UF's site through the router...
I'm baffled. Any super IT people here?
I'll check back in a little while... See if I can't come up with anything new.
Thanks!
Grul

Have you reset your modem lately? Unplug it for 15-30 seconds then plug it back in. If it has a reset button use that as well.

I called my ISP (Cox High Speed Internet) and the guy told me that people had called their offices regarding access to the site for the past for days. He said he could access the site (he was in GA not using Cox, I'm in FL using Cox) but that he couldn't ping it (which was odd). I can't ping or access the site... And he said there was really nothing he could do. But I guess the problem is the website?
Kind of strange. I hope the other 46,000 students are able to access the website better than I can...
Just curious, tho -- can those of you who have access to the website ping it?

If you can't access the site by typing in the URL, you will NOT be able to ping the URL either.
If your DNS server for some reason does not have the URL translation information for the University, maybe the University had changed IP addresses through out the school and the new DNS IP addresses attached to the URL had not yet trickled down to your DNS with your cable service!!!
If your DNS at your ISP does not have the URL to IP conversion, you still should be able to access the site IF you knew the ACTUAL IP address of the server you were trying to go to.
Also.... in your Internet Settings, change "Check For Newer Versions of Stored Pages", From "Automatically" (or worse "Never") and change it to "Every Visit to Page"
This way rather than having your computer think the most recent page for the site is a "Site not found", you will always force your browser to verify the page of every website you go to!!!!
