”World’s fastest” based on SPEC® CPU 2000 benchmark results and leading professional application performance tests against 3 GHz Pentium 4-based Dell Dimension 8300 and 3.06 GHz Dual Xeon-based Dell Precision 650. SPEC® CPU 2000 benchmarks run with GCC 3.3 and independently tested, full report available from Veritest; professional applications tested by Apple, June 2003.

I'm out of time, but someone dig up those posts where that so called "independent labs" ran tests that were indeed found to be biased, not utilizing Xeon features, yet utilizing Apple features.

Yeah, fair test....lets try comparing apples to apples next time (excuse the pun).

Reminds me of that test they did back in the early iMac days, where they'd compare their iMac with an ATI Rage Pro Turbo against a Packard Smell with an S-3 Virge 2 meg card...and brag about how fast MacQuake ran . I'm not kidding you...they actually ran this comparison ad for quite some time.

I don't look at the benchmarks in these type of situations anyways

You can't compare Mac's to PC's apples to apples

Wow...

It's kinda like having a Porsche 911 and living on a island with no roads longer than your driveway. What good is all that power when the system runs slow and most of the apps are outperformed by Wintel versions?

Coming from a Mac background I have to say once I started using a PC, I never went back. My dad still uses Mac's at home to this day, but I built him a modest 1700+ system and he uses it 90% of the time over his beloved G4 now. That Mac is dog-slow on dialup compared to the PC..... makes we wonder....

my biggest problem is the price, 2nd problem is not being able to build it myself.

Motorola used to make the proccesors for Apple..not sure if they still do!

This is just a personal opinion: i've got nothing against Mac's but i think they r way overrated just like Intel is!

I do admit that there a few things from the Mac that i would like to see on the PC (but that will probably never happen) and visa versa

For graphics and everything i'm sure they r great...but with the PCS now-a-days scaling to 3+ Ghz and still rizing, new technologies being created for PC's (PCI Express, Serial ATA, Hammer {integrated memory controller}, etc.), the new graphichs cards coming out (i heard that ATI 9800 Pro is REALLY sweet), the price vs performance ration and being able to customize a PC from the hardware to the software (atleast u can install indows or linux or both on u're pc) PC are the way to go!

plus i heard that Mac's tend to break down more often than PC's!

...so i've heard...

once again...thats just my opinion!

:rotfl:

dunno
if you compared it to that, Apple would prolly blow the whistle and say it's not a fair comparison

besides I think it would be a no contest...
no..?
