If money is an issue then that is a great m/b, i had the asus version of that chipset and i ran flawlessly but there are better options out right now. Look for the 845PE chipsets or the SIS 648


These are in the same price range and will offer better o/c'ing features than the soyo IMHO:

Noticing the RAID on the mobo...how about an extra WD 80 gig and we'll all have some fun?

I'm playin the dollar a bit, but the hardest part is pullin away from my Gigabyte boards. I've had awesome luck with them. Just been doin some read ups on different boards and the Soyo caught my eye.

Part of the prob is its tough to find stuff in Canada and money gets to be a real factor, the Soyo is $220 canadian. The 2.4 is $275. Have to upgrade Ram at same time.

OK so I looked up the ASUS P4PE Socket-478 ATX Motherboard
6 PCI, 1 AGP 4x, 3 DDR 333, Intel 845PE Chipset, Onboard Audio/LAN at my fav places, and its a few buck cheaper then the Soyo, allowing to step up the the P111 2.53 for about the same bucks....hmmm

Another 80 will follow for raid, definatly.

I must be just about ready, sacraficed my server today and sent the 900 up to the kids .
My 866 will step up to the plate for serving.

Nice looking setup, I think you'll be pleased with that board and can expect close to 3ghz o/c's if you get a good cpu. Hopefully you'll get a C1 stepping CPU. And yeah canadian prices do suck

Just out of curiosity how dead set are you on the intel?

The athlon xp 2500 barton with the 166mhz fsb is selling for 180. We could get LT in here to convince you if you'd like?

Na, had too many AMD's get hot and die.
Live in hundred year lod house and dust kills fans extremely fast, Fan dies on intel, and no damage done, fan dies on AMD, dead in 30 seconds.
So I'll stick with Intel.

The 2.53s overclock pretty well. I had mine at just over 3 GHz without insane cooling.

about the intel dying stuff, mose newer mobos will automatically shutdown your computer if it starts overheating i think

Nah I know AMD and MOBO manufacturers have done some great stuff. The Intel chips have just never let me down. Every Intel Chip I've had, right back to 486DX's are still running. I still know where everyone of them is.
When Intel lets me down, then I'll jump over to something else.
The AMD's I had that burned up were K6's and I know ya can't compare them with the new chips.
Ah well, hopefully ma new parts will be here before I go to work so I can build it tonight

uhh every amd chip i owned is still runing too..its not like either one of them just die..i think you are just stuck on intel...personally they are both the same once you get up into the higher end market (ie the 3ghz p4 and the 3k athlon) around the same price but lower down you can get a xp1700 for $50 buta $120 for a 1.8 p4
