Is there any way to extract the audio from a DVD and store it on my hard drive so the kids don't trash the DVD playing the music? Thanks

Look around for DVD Ripper...Also, some research into the various formats used for movies is in order....AC3, and so forth.

Thanks. I was hopping it would be as easy as ripping a CD audio to disk. Looks like a lot to learn. Thanks.

I believe a freeware program called DVD2AVI will do exactly what you're looking for in just one step.
Although you'll need to rip the DVD using a program like Smart Ripper first, there should be an option on the DVD2AVI menu to convert the DVD audio track (of your choice) to a WAV file. There may also be options for AC3 or even MP3 as well.

Thanks. There were a lot of different approaches to look at. So I'd have to rip the entire DVD audio first, then try to pick out the corredt tracks to convert to audio, I assume. Thanks.
