Ok a lot of you know I was having trouble with my Linksys.. I have the Duplex/Collision on the NIC set to 100/Half Mode and it seems to be doing fine so far. The other computer has the same NIC but it's set to 100/ Full or whatever it is..

My question is what is the Mode and what does it do?

Thanks for all your help...

if u have it on half and it's working leave it

ppl say if u are behind a router use full

I switch back and forth from half to full

Also one thing i was meaning to ask u if you got static ip's up if you don't let me know

The statice ips help performance greatly

Half Mode

If it ain't broke don't fix it thats why I'm asking.. :) No static IP'sHow would I choose them just use 2 of the publiic IP's?
I'm not real fond of buying two more IPs from my provider...

you don't have to buy an ipaddy from provider

ok all you have to do is with the computers goto

my computer control panel network poperties

give ur computer an address of 192.168.1.xx the xx could be any number except on
the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
for dns goto startmenu, run type cmd then type ipconfig/all
where it saids dns settings right that number down
and go back to control panel network type those numbers in for dns
for default gateway u want that 192.168.1.1 assuming that is ur routers address
you might have to do some port remapping but it's worth it

on the router goto 192.168.1.1 have dhcp server disabled
then click on advanced and make sure you have block wan request disabled and mtu set at 1500 that should help

I tried that early in the game....

you may have a bad line from the router to one of the computers.Try replacing cable with cat5e or cat6. maybe a bad end on cable or loose wire

Alredy replaced the cables...but..

I don't think it could be a cable because when my computer looses the connection the other one does too.

You have a problem . I don't know if it's your ISP or on your end but from what you say it may be a little of both.I would also think that if you can't set your nic card speed to auto there is something wrong in you network. It could be a cheap nic card or bad cable and your ISP may just drop your connection alot to.It could be the router also.
I would also say the computer that is looses it connection is the one with the bad cable or bad nic card ,and you can also try another port on the router

It can't be a bad cable or NIC card..

I have replaced them both. The cheap NIC card so far has worked better than the 3Com card..Now a update..So far it's still running. I have the NIC card set at 100.half and it's ran fine now.

I have also replcaed the cables several days ago...and it still went down.
