I just installed windows XP and I am having mad problems. First was my soundcard (audigy gamer) freezing my computer with a humming sound. Now its my slow internet speed. My biggeset problem is when im playing CS my connection lags to the point where I can't even move. Sometimes it starts out good around 150 ping but then just goes off the scale at like 2354 ping or something. I have tried using TweakMaster and some of the tweaks on the speedguide site but im still laggin out with all my half-life mods. They did help my download speeds but possibly at the cost of critical packet loss. I am on a network that is connected to a 4 port linksys router that 4 computers are connected. I use at@t cable broadband. If anyone could help me that would be crucial.

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 64240
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2569.6 kbps (321.2 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1027.84 kbps (128.48 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 115 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Did you have cable before Wins XP ? If you had Cable before XP did you play on this same server and keep a stable ping around 150ms?

I had a nice steady ping around 150 and less with Windows ME.

I would think that 150 ping is not nice steady ping for a cable modem you should be under a 100 ! have you ran any trace rout to your game server?
