Modem Questions..

I hear that a modem next to electrical objects can affect its performance. If this is true my Modem is right next to my power surge as in 10 centemeters away from each other. Should I move it to a new location?

I believe Data lines should be at least 12 inches away from power lines.
It's not necessarily the modem but the cable that is affected.

Stay away from fluorescent lighting and unshielded speakers too.

When you mean uncovered speakers I am confused. Well my modem is right next to the speakers? should Move it from this area?

If they are computer speakers.. they are shielded

We use tri- shielded, high quality RG-6 that is virtually unaffected by a power cord. (Don't ever use cheap Radio shack 59 junk for any cable apps!)I don't know about flor. lights, but why take a chance?

Ya, florescent lights create a lot of noise.
CoAx is actually more susceptable to noise than Cat5e UTP. What brand of cable are you using bigmo66? I'd like to check it out.

Can't remember the brand. Of course we buy it by the pallet in 1000' rolls. I know compared to the customer cable I see again and again, it is by far a higher quality. Our cable has a thick center conductor, good dialectric, then a foil, braid, foil, thick jacket. Good stuff. Our flooded jacket (underground) is impregnated with a "goo" for water resistence. I'll get you the brand.

You mean I shouldn't have my modem sitting on top of my router with my phone on top of the modem ?

The power adapters are usually low enough voltage that you don't have to worry about them. Then again I've seen people get performance increases when they move their NIC adapter to the PCI slot a few slots down away from their power supply's.

Hmm that is intresting.. I might actually try that if I have a slot open and if I can move any lower.
