Analyzer gives me this...

I'm on a LAN, i.e. My PC is connected to a Hub which is connected to a router.

My Connection is 128 kbps ADSL

I cant play Multiplayer Games or Send Files over MSN

Aany idea whats going on?

I dont know the names of Hub and Router, I'll get them later, but for now..anyone help me out?

and oh my LAN IP( 192.168.blablabla) is different and Host IP(IP given by my ISP) is different, whic I think is common wen sharing internet.

My OS is WinME

Is this a home network?
What games are you trying to run? Most games don't need any ports forwarded to play,,, only to host.

As far as MSN check out practically Networked for the ports to be forwarded.

if you need help setting up your router then you will have to give Make and model.

As far as different IPs,,, what you are calling your Host IP should be held by the router. The router then hands out internal IPs to all the LAN rigs each rig needs a unique number.

Good ol' Counter Strike

And how do we forward the ports?

Counter strike requires no ports forwarded in order to play.

I want to play CS on the Internet, not on the LAN

It is a home network, well not within my house but shared with my neighbours.


All PCs connected to HUB which is connected to Router.

There is no main/Admin/Server PC, The main computer does not need to be ON if I want to be online. I''m online all the time.

Well how about letting us know what type of router you have.

I phoned the ISP..

and oh...I just found out that I'm connected to SWITCH , not a HUB, I repead Not a HUB,

All 5 PCS Connected to SWITCH which is connected to ROUTER called GreatSpeed.

Ethernet Card is D-LINK.

sharing with your neighbors?,,,, well do they have their router configured to block any ports?

I saw that you mentioned you're using a switch. Do you and your neighbor have seperate IP addresses assigned by your ISP, or are you all connected on the same IP? The router will assign a seperate IP address for each LAN station, but a switch wont. It requires you to have a seperate IP for each computer connected to it.

I tried using a switch for my cable modem ( 1 IP only), and ran into this problem when I hooked up a second station. It would only allow one computer to operate online, while the other couldnt TX/RX. Turning off, and removing/reconnecting the cables to my modem and switch would allow the latter computer to TX/RX, while the former would be essentially disconnected.

Didnt realize my mistake until I went to D-Link's website FAQ and found the no. 1 question was exactly the problem I had.

there is only one router, I'll go and check out but I'm not exactly sure where to check that, I'll figure that out or I'll ask

All computers can connect to internet @ the same time and little speed is compromised and it all works fine but the problems I asked exists.

Hmm...I had a problem accessing games on the net as well, in particular Tribes 2, but I found that the router I bought had updated firmware. The new firmware included a gaming mode, and once I turned it on, everything worked.

You said your neighbor is using the router, so maybe you want to check that.
