For the past year I have used DSL to connect to the internet. Haven't had any problems( other then good speed), particularly with any of the file sharing programs (Kazza, edonkey etc.)

A few days ago I switched to cable service ( Time-warner, Motorola modem)

Ever since then I lose my internet connection after anywhere from 10-180 minutes when using any of the file sharing programs. The internet will not reconnect without doing a reboot.

I have disable the firewall, connected directly to the modem from the PC and thru the hub to the PC. Tried various combinations of speed tweeks, and minimizing sources in the file sharing programs.

Looking for other ideas

running win98se on a 700mhz AMD, with 256m ram, 10-15 GB of free HD space

Welcoem to Speedguide :D . Please read here so that we can properly help you. :)

It's VERY important you read the above link and follow the instructions I have for removing spyware, the apps you mentioned are loaded with spyware and will corrupt your pc and internet connection.

:D :)
