Subaru is a division of Fugi Heavy Industries, Japanese as can be. the commercials are supposed to mimic Australia.

I live in Australia - there are alot of WRX's here, but they aren't made here.

Most of the toyota Camry's are however.... so your's might be :D

The HSV i mentioned above costs about AU$60k - which is approx US$30k... in 5.3 seconds from 0-100km/h (0-60mph)

is anything what it says it is on the label anymore?

The best car is one that looks good to you, runs great, doesn't break the bank, doesn't cost an arm and a leg for insurance, isn't number one on the stolen car list, and doesn't attract too much attention, specially if your going to speed :)
Cops like red cars, easy to spot in a pac, so they pic on them. Hondas are cool but too popular right now, theft rate and overpriced due to the popularity.
But in the end, if you like what you bought who cares what anyone else thinks?

Good points, all. For those of us who take the whole car thing more seriously, the criteria are somewhat different. But your advice for NightOwl is right on the money. :)

Hmm, 10k canadian.
For that much, i'd definitely go with a talon/eclipse/laser. Heard they're not too reliable, so make sure you know a good mechanic. However, if you're looking to tune it, you can get one cheap and have money to spare on parts. Just make sure you get a AWD version.

Oh yeah, if you're feeling rich save some more and get an older integra type r, which is supposed to be lots of fun. It's 1.8liter, 195 horse, more HP to liter than a ferrari f355!
