If you do intense aerobic exercise such as a stair master, you will still be stimulating the muscles won't you?
Seems like the same benefits as weights just focused on different muscles and a whole body work out.
If i'm talking **** here just shoot me.
Less reps more weight, I lift to failure. Stairmaster will only burn the muscle after a very short time. Check out forum.bodybuilding.com for a all your info needs.

I was 252# and 5'9". Today I weighed in at 200# even.
I've been eating less (shooting for 1500-2000 calories) and exercising a lot. I do mostly aerobic exercise about 4 times per week. I normally run between 15 and 25 miles per week.
Diets suck. Eating less and exercising is the way to do it.
Good luck. Most of it is mental to get yourself to stay on it and run/work through the pain.

You are under eating. Bump that up to 2500 calories a day for that weight and break it down to 5 - 6 meals. You're slowing the metabolism down with too few of calories.

You want to lose weight or what?
You need to eat less calories in a day than you burn. Simple math.
Once I get down to a healthy weight, I'll start upping the calories. Believe me, my metabolism is MUCH higher than it was when I was a fat, lazy person.

Ehh... after reading the rest of the thread, I see you're now an expert in weight loss and fitness so I better not bother trying to talk with you.
If you want to lose the tire, do more aerobics and cut the calories. My tire is long gone and the abs are starting to show through.
Also, I'm going for lean to do triathlons, not "big and buff" as you stated your goal is. Two different things.
Best of luck. Over and out.

I think you missed his point. By eating 5 or 6 times a day with less per serving, your increasing your metabolism. If your doing that, then you can up the calories somewhat and not fear muscle loss which for most diet is a nasty byproduct and the reason people fail at weight loss.
If what your doing is working for you without loosing muscle mass then keep it up.

Yes sir, simple math. At your weight, 200#, your body burns 3000 calories a day for maintance. 200x15=3000 - 500 calories for weight loss =2500 calories -500 to 800 calorie gym or workout per day = 1800 to 2000 calories for the rest of your needs. Way too low, your body is in starvation mode.
Simple math, bump it up my friend, it will come off much faster if you do.

I agree 100%. I started with the small meals a week ago. Not only am I satisfied, (not hungry), I have more energy. My clothes are not as tight this week as they were last week too and all I do is walk for now to start.
If you don't take in enough calories for energy with heavy duty workouts, your body will turn to the muscles and break them down for energy. That is when you take a chance of ending up with sagging skin.
Sid, you got me motivated.

Expert! Not a chance, this is just what every body builder does, because it simply works. Yes, I could get skinny real quick by starving myself at 1800 calories a day but that is hard on my heart and loosing too fast is not healthy.
I agree, runners and lifters have two separate goals, but the main goal in both is to retain muscle, pure and simple.
Same to you, best of luck in your journey.
No hard feelings.

What if I wanna gain weight ?
I dont think Whey powder is helping me much ...I'm drinking that whole bottle with milk in one week eating veggies, fruit, chicken (sometimes I eat whole 3kg chicken) I'm eating machione now and i cant f gain weight.
There is 10-15k calories/day and still gaining maybe 30gramms of weight.

If you have an out of control metabolism, gaining weight is going to be tough.
First, you want to put it on as muscle. That means hitting the weights. Secondly, you really need a special diet. Just enough carbs to fuel decient workouts and lots of protien.
Secondly, lie down when you can sit.
I'd advise against it. Why? Putting it on is one thing, but taking it off is another.
I used to be like that so I did what I just posted. I worked my tail off gaining more muscle. I went from 150 to 200 lbs in about 11 months. Usually I was around 8 percent body fat but got as low as 4 to 5 percent.
Cool eh? Sure till I got older and started developing high blood pressure.
Sometimes we just need to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us. I don't have the genes to be big without problems. That said, I do need to drop about 20 lbs or more.

Holly crap, you're eating 10000 Cal's a day and still not gaining? 6 lbs of chicken in one day is unheard of. Have your thyroid tested, it maybe over active. Definitely sounds like a medical problem.

Rivas, unless you actually calculated all of your caloric intake by actually adding everything up by hand/calculator or by using a nice simple program such as
http://www.fitday.com ...I seriously doubt you're eating 10k+ cals a day and not gaining weight. I mean, there are people like that...and you very well may be one of them...but it's just that most people who say "I eat soooo much and don't gain weight" really aren't even going over 3-4k calories a day...yet they think they're eating cows everyday.

What does your doctor say about your inability to gain weight? Did you raise this issue with him?

Yeah, fitday.com is a great place. Go chart your meals there. I add all mine manually, but you can use the built in stuff to get yourself close.

Oatmeal is the one food that seems to make me gain weight like crazy. Never understood why. Bread isn't far behind.

Yeah same here. Once you add all the manual stuff in, it's really easy. It's annoying at first though...adding it all in.

Well...fat is the easiest to gain weight with because it has the most calories per gram. Try adding jars of peanut butter to your diet and tell me you didn't gain weight.
