Can someone clarify for a complete idiot such as myself how you input the command line to get a display of 1920x1200? - possibly with a picture showing the command being inputted?
From what I've read - you open the shortcut ''BF2'' and in the empty box with ''BF2'' already in there, and you just add after it - ''+menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200''....is this correct?
Because it ain't working for me, I've tried having and not having a space before the ''+''..I've tried altering the .con files with 1920x1200..I've tried a lot of things but the HUD map is always always oval
Someone just print me a little picture showing the command being typed in...because I fear I'm just missing or doing something silly here.
Ok I'm definetly not on the right track..when you say ''add to the shortcut''..I'm taking this to mean the BF2 icon that's labelled ''BF2'', you right click - go into properties and in the white box(nothing that says ''Target'') you input the stuff...BUT...
when I put in exactly what you listed it says ''a filename cannot contain any of the following chatactor s\,/ ''etc.
Ok here a pic of my obvious stupidity..whats wrong with this picture?

Ah, no your going the the BF2.exe file, you dont want it there.
You want the shortcut, usually that will be in an EA Games folder in yout start menu, but instead of clicking it to play the game, you right click, select properties , and go to the shortcut tab, then you will see a "target" area.
I've just looked at a screenshot I took two minutes ago and compared it to earlier ones and it's come up as a widescreen pic instead of the usual squares ones...so I guess that means sucesss.
Just now flying around in a jet produced some blue-ish outlines on objects as I made turns...damn I hope that's not ghosting..seems to have come with the resolution change.
I getting between 30-40 fps. I didn't notice any ghosting on GTR which supports 1920x1200, or likewise SanAndreas for that matter.
Might just be poor ATI drivers.
I've been reading around and it seems that this widescreen mode actually cuts off about 240 verticle pixels and is basically a shortened 4:3 mode. I've got a good pic to show it as well but I can't be arsd posting it as it's late.
What your seeing is the graphic card getting stressed at a higher resolution... this is where SLI on the nVidia cards comes in handy.. I'd suggest going even lower on the resolution for the game on the shortcut... try a new Cat driver... look around on guru3d to see what new Beta's have come out to give a shot, Heat on the card might be a issue since its artifacts is what your seeing.

Well its your choice to use widescreen or not. Unfortunately with games taht dotn officially support WS mode, you get what ya get.
