beware that if you get vonage and decide to drop it....they DO CHARGE 40.00 disconnect PER LINE.
i found out the hard way.
unless you need dialup or to get or send faxes over your landline.....why keep any home phone?
i dropped mine about a year ago and dont miss it at all.
even if you do fax.....get a bluetooth cell and you can use it as modem/fax
but be ready for the cell carrier to lay on charges to use your phone as a modem.
at least that is the case with cingular.....your provider may be better.
SKYPE seems like the holy grail of how VoIP should be...... to me.
use skype out when you need to...very cheap intl calls too....like 2cents a min.
used it to call a friend in the U.K. ....worked like a charm.
ill stop rambling.
hope something in here helps ya out

Hey GH, which model off the arris did you get? Does it have a slot for one or 2 batteries? I have the same modem and mine is the one with two batteries. I have extra batteries if you have the dual, they usually only give out 1 per modem.
Let me know and I can send you another battery if you would like, just gives you extra talk time incase power goes out. I have about four batteries charged up incase power goes out for an extended amount of time. With the two batteries I get about 8 hours talk time.

I signed up with sunrocket VOIP. There are no setup fees and if you go monthly, it's $24.95 w. all taxes included, plus $3/mo allowance in intl calls (Canada is included in the base price). If you go yearly, it's $199, all included (if you decide to cancel, they'll refund you your money prorated.) They sent me a box and two free phones. All I had to do is hook up the box directly to the cable modem, then the ethernet connection from the box to the computer, plug in my phone, and I was done. Outbound was available right away. Inbound they said would take up to 2 weeks, but it was there the following day. You can transfer your current number, and get a second signature number, if you want to anywhere in the country. Of course the usual features like vm for both numbers, Caller ID, Call Waiting, Call Waiting ID, Call rejection, Call forwarding, etc. Some people we have called since having the service have told us we sound like on a cell phone and sometimes as in a tunnel, with slight echoes. However, paying $60/mo for reg phone service (with just call waiting) incl US long distance and dial up vs. $60 for broadband and VOIP, I decided on the latter. (I also got a good deal on Comcast, so the next 6 months I'll actually be paying less than what I currently pay.) Just my $.02.
