Cable Modem Goes out of Sync

Post by RiderGZ »

MY Cable connections out of Sync and want to know if any of the splitters in the apt can cause this by having a split wire at the end of it. IS this possible? Please post as many things you think would cause this problem with Cable. Thank You

There should not be any splitters on the cable line . The only split should be were it hooks to your house, from there one line to the cable modem and one to all your TV's

There will always be at least one split in the line. Normally, there will be a ground block at the house and then an input line to a spiltter. Depending on the setup of the home, quality of the signal determines how the High speed data will be split.

The fact that you are losing connection could be a number of things. YES, splitters can cause a problem. We (InsightBB techs) do not like to split data lines more than once. We also do not like to use amplifiers if at all possible. The down stream frequency is at 553.25 in our system and drops off FAST with distance and splits. There could also be a maintenance problems in the plant (hard line etc..)
Return amps can go bad, noise in the home, ie ingress, voltage etc.. Could be the cable itself, bad fittings on and on? You need to have a data service tech take a look.

Living in an aprtment requires splits. In fact I have one where it comes in to split to my living room TV and then the other cable goes into a hole in the wall to bedroom #1 which is then split again to go to bedroom #2 but even the line in bedroom #1 gets split to a tv so before my cable line ever reaches the modem it is split 3 times. I never lose sync and have not noticed any adverse effects on speeds, downloads or uploads. It could be the coupling on the cables as those can become loose. Make sure thos are nice and tight.

What do you mean as coupling? do you mean cables on the splitter?

I think he means the fitting on the end of the cable, the part that screws on to your modem or splitter.

Also I have seen many times that the neigbors will split into the lines to get free cable. This is easy in an apartment cause they can get into the attic or basement where the wires are usually ran. just my 2 cents. :)
