Strangest outcome with Asus A7n8x...

Post by SLK »

Its the wierdest thing that happened to me in computer history! i flashed to asus' beta bios v1002 thinking it would resolve my crash probs and then once i flashed my system stopped posting! Everytime i clear the cmos it would post. but if i save the bios to cmos and exit it wouldnt post, if i reset it it wont post, if i remove the cmos battery i get a CPU overspeed error and the bios will lock up. I flashed to the 1001d bios and it did the same thing! I thought for sure that my bios chip was corrupted. I gave up and called it a night. I left the battery removed and the cmos was already cleared from the other night(bios wouldnt let me save changes) I decided to try it after work and it did the usual post the first time. then i tryed to save the bios to cmos and it posted!
Its working fine right now? Is that all it needed was a rest?-rofl

Should i trust it or should i RMA it?

my bios came with Rev "e". I downgraded to "d" and had nothing but crashes. I guess im stupid for doing that. I tryed the beta and it totally screwed everything. Im just glad its workin. If "d" dont crash on me with this setup then ill keep it.

Your lucky you can still post. It seems Asus is using a bad batch of bios chips. Most users after trying to save their bios changes die completely. I held my breath when I flashed to 1002 beta yesterday. Fortunately everything went well. I can now run at 215 fsb Stable.

Always flash from a disc....Asus has a flash utility that works like a charm. You can get it off your mobo cd or from their web site. They explain it in detail on how to use it. I don't trust their Flash program for windows...

Are you using Crucial memory with that? I have read around that there seems to be a problem with the way that board reads the spd of the memory. If you have another memory chip, try it with that or manually set the mem spd's. Just an idea.

Duz, My board is the Non deluxe ver. Dont worry ;) . i think i just went through a bad bios flash. It was probibly my fault to downgrade the bios from the E ver to the D ver. Now asus released E to the public. But i had E when i first bought the board...strange

I have had one or 2 experiences where ASUS was claiming a BIOS update added support for a new CPU, but then I tried it and the computer wouldn't boot. It was the next BIOS update that worked.

I'm not sure if ASUS is using us as Beta testers for their BIOS updates or what!

asus has to get there act together. there rep of "the best motherboard brand" from tom's hardware is gonna tarnish. They are far from "ok" in my eyes.

I think the problem in the whole industry is that companies forego perfection (or very high quality) and the future of a product line for being first out on the market instead.

ASUS should maybe slow down, be out a month later than other brands but also get it right and offer support and features that other motherboards don't have or that were buggy.

I have Had a Asus A7n8x Deluxe Great Board- I am running a Epox 8RDA+ Great Board also - the Diff. is Asus & Epox is that Epox is Listening to the People that Buy and Run the Motherboard - You can go to AMDMB and Epox and get Support from a Epox tech - Customer support all the way
