It can get worse

If the nerve is exposed, then you need a root canal
before the crown. You can put it off, but it does not go away,
only gets worse.

Been there, done that!

Cobra....most insurance plans cover x-rays, fillings, cleaning and extractions. Anything beyond that (any extensive treatments) usually have a co-payment. I have a good dental plan and co-pay for crown is $200-$400 depending on which tooth it is. Hopefully it will just be a filling.

Anyway I'm just glad it doesn't hurt at the moment...

I just sent an e-mail to my insurance company to ask if they cover a crown.....

Dental Insurance here in Canada usually pay 50% of crowns and root canals. They usually run between $500-$600 each. So I pay half of that. I have found the dentist will allow payments over a few months to settle the bill.

Guess the first step is to see what the dentist needs to do to fix your tooth.

I've had bad teeth all my life. Have 4 right now that have had root canals. That stuff they use nowadays deadens everything. Felt nothing during the process. Just takes a while in the chair while the take out the root, file the canal smooth, then fill it with a rubberized substance. takes about an hour and jaw gets tired from holding your mouth open but no pain. fell asleep once during the process. if your nervous just grab dentist in crotch area and say, "We're not going to hurt each other, are we?" - LOL

I ask for the bite block, even just for fillings

It is a rubber wedge they place on the opposite side of your mouth to
help keep your mouth open, otherwise I get a bad cramp in my jaw muscles in less than 5 minutes. Works great, they have different sizes. A crown takes 2-3 hours, and you gotta go back 2 times, the first one is a temp crown, they gotta custom fit you for the final unit, and that takes a week or so to be made.

Hey cobra, which insurance do you have anyway? I need to get one (since my German one just expired), any company you can recommend?

And good luck with your tooth, hopefully it won't be painful/expensive (kinda the same, aren't they?)!

Cheers,

national insurance with Zorg en Zekerheid... it's a good one.. Still just a little bit below the income limit for national insurance... so I'm still insured for little money :D great system :D

That's at least one thing that's better over here then in the US.... at least everyone's got a health insurance...

want to hear a pretty bad story one time what happened to me?

One time I was getting a tooth drilled, and he gave me novacaine, but I guess just not enough, even though my lip and side of the mouth was numb, he must have hit something in my tooth that just was not numb enough, well it hurt so bad and I was not expecting it. Well I jumped as an automatic reflex really bad mistake. By me jumping the dentist by accident slipped and the drill went right into my lower lip.

At the time it happened I felt no pain becuase my lip was numb, but afterwards not only was it cut pretty bad, but man the pain was real bad for about a week and I can barely eat.

That taught me never to jump ever again..lol

never use sedation when I get drilled.... the pain is my punishment for not taking care of my teeth....

if you just relax it won't hurt that much...

the only thing I've really found to be quite painful is when you lose a filling.... and the dentist has to drill out the old parts of the filling.... now that hurts..

but hey...: No pain... No gain
