  • WINWORD.exe - is obivious, only runs when you're using the program.
  • ATRACK.exe - Norton Personal Firewall Alert Tracker. This is going to be personal preference. If you want an alert when network traffic has met a rule you have set in your configuration.
  • NISUM.exe - don't know what this is
  • INETINFO.exe - Component of Microsoft IIS. Unless you're running any type of server, disable this.
  • IAMAPP.exe - Component of Norton Personal Firewall.
  • smss.exe and csrss.exe- are part of the W32.Dalbug.Worm. THESE ARE PART OF A VIRUS!
The svchost.exe, explorer.exe, services.exe, winlogon, taskmgr, System, System Idle Process, cftmon.exe, spoolsv.exe, lsass.exe files are all part of Windows and required.

You can disable ctfmon.exe by disabling the Text Services and Speech applet in the Control Panel. This executable is part of Office XP. If you don't disable the above the executable will continue to pop up as a running process.

NAVAPSVC, NAVAPW32, SYMPROXYSVC and NISSERV are all part of Norton Internet Security and Norton Anti-Virus.

You can further free up system resources by disabling items through MSCONFIG and disabling un-needed services.
