HELP! Linksys Wireless Cable/DSL Router gone MAD!

Post by daraxta »

Hi,

My wireless network connection at home was working fine till a few days ago. I was having some problems with my IE6, this was because of Windows XP Service Pack 1 was installed on my system and to fix the problem I had to uninstall then reinstall Norton Internet Security (NIS) and Virus Scanner.

After having done this I had a problem on my client computer not being able to surf the web unless NIS was disabled. So again, I uninstalled then reinstalled NIS, needless to say, that didn't fix the problem. So I went to look if there was any Firmware or software updates that might do the trick, and there was. Its was a firmware for my router which I downloaded then tried to install. But I kept getting an error message that the firmware could not "find" the router and to try to manually configure it a certain IP Address and Subnet Mask, I think it was IP :192.168.1.50 and Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, so I did that.

Now I cannot get any connection the router whatsoever, and the WLAN ACT, WLAN LINK(both steady green), and the WAN DIAG flashes red. I tried to reset the system by pressing the reset button for more than 30 seconds but still no use.

What can I do now?

Thanks,

To truely reset you need to completely unplug for 5 minutes or so. You are doing a soft reset which simply clears connections...

I thought that all Linksys WAP devices (even hybrids like yours) have a wireless access utility on the CDROM that came with it...try accessing that way before yu hard-reset

If the router is flashing red, that means that it has a bad firmware copy. Did you just recently try to update the firmware?
