Download speed problem
Download speed problem
Whenever i start download something, i usually start off with high speed. Something like 300-500kB/sec. But after a couple second later the speed slowly dropped down to 60-90KB/sec. Anyone know what setting in the registry tweak causes this? I'm using mnosteele52 tweak setting in cablenut. Rwin is set at 256960.

It's normal for the beginning of a download to start high then drop. The reason for this is when you select to download a file it takes a couple of seconds for you to choose the location (folder) it will be stored in. While that happens the file has already started to download and the incomming packets are stored in a buffer untill the location is chossen. The data is then moved from the buffer to the choosen location. The MS Download utility reports that speed for the beginning of the download.

k did 4 test in total and here's the result. Test 1-3 are pretty much the same all are around the 107X-108Xkbps range or 130ishKB/sec. Seem kinda low no?

Your download speed : 1088031 bps, or 1088 kbps.
A 132.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 397022 bps, or 397 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

try thease rwins 51100,58400,64240,116800 try them one at a time and rember if rwin is higher then 65535 u have to set tcp opts with a check in the box in sg optimizer,or 1 if u are using cablenut reeboot after changes i gave you a bunch of low numbers due to the fact I think I know what ur capps are but i'm not 100% sure
also take speed test like i shown or told u earlier post back with resualts or comments questions whatever.

According to Shaws site your caps are 3000/384, if that is the case try the following settings in Cablenut:
DefaultReceiveWindow = 384000
DefaultSendWindow = 49152
DisableAddressSharing = 1
InitialLargeBufferCount = 100
InitialMediumBufferCount = 240
InitialSmallBufferCount = 320
LargeBufferSize = 81920
MaxFastTransmit = 64000
MediumBufferSize = 15040
PriorityBoost = 0
SmallBufferSize = 1280
TransmitWorker = 32
FastSendDatagramThreshold = 4096
EnableFastRouteLookup = 1
EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1
IgnorePushBitsOnReceive = 0
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = 64240 or 128480
MaxFreeTcbs = 8000
MaxHashTableSize = 16384
MaxNormLookupMemory = 5000000
SackOpts = 1
SynAttackProtect = 1
Tcp1323Opts = 0 (set to 1 if TcpReceiveWindow is 65535 or higher)
TcpLogLevel = 1
TcpMaxDupAcks = 2
TcpMaxHalfOpen = 100
TcpMaxHalfRetried = 80
TcpRecvSegmentSize = 1460
TcpSendSegmentSize = 1460
TcpTimedWaitDelay = 30
TcpUseRFC1122UrgentPointer = 0
TcpWindowSize = 64240 or 128480
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 20
MaxConnectionsPerServer = 10
DefaultTTL = 64
DisableUserTOSSetting = 0
TcpMaxDataRetransmissions = 6
DefaultTOSValue = 92
Something I have read about Shaw Cable is that their internet speed is very unreliable, it fluctuates form person to person in the same area.... I don't know if it's true, just something I read.
P.S. Also set your NIC duplex mode to 100mb full duplex mode and try power cycling your modem.
