Which 27" TV?

Post by Humboldt »

I'm no good with electronic brand names.

Since this is one of my only options (Costco has a pitiful TV selection unless you want a LCD screen or have $3000), which of these 27" TV's seems like the best deal?

They're all about the same price. The main feature I'd want would be S-video so that rules out the Sharp.

Any ideas?

Phillips has the best tube for the money... I love my 19", and a friend has a just-as-great-looking 25" No reason why the 27" would be any different.

Actually I have a Toshiba also, and it rocks. 27" flat screen. Got it at Best Buy for $499. I haven't priced them since, maybe they've lowered the price...

My only advice is to stick away with RCA non-HD TVs or moth Zenith models.

The picture on Zenith sets went downhill a decade ago or so, when they moved most of their plants to Mexico and elsewhere. Some people even claim to be able to tell which plant their TV was made at by the defects in the picture. :p

Yeah, my Toshiba replaced the Zenith I got in approx 1995. It lost the green in the picture a couple years ago and I just dealt with it. So mine lasted a whopping 5 years!

Philips Magnavox 27PS60S 27-Inch Stereo TV/Monitor looks pretty good but would better is black, philips/magnavox last forever too and have great quality and features for the price....i used to work @ kmart in the elctronics dept and maganvox was the only brand we didnt have a problem with, the RCA's are junk.....hope this helps

Ahh you didn't mention a price limit... Then do a Magnavox. We have two of them (a 27 and a 19) and they've been great TV's.

I agree with BJS. My Zenith's picture tanked after 1.5 to 2 years. Very disappointed.

Of those from which to choose, definitely get the Phillips.

The EXACT same thing happened to my 27" Zenith no more than 2.5 years after i bought the damn thing!!!!!
I took it in to have it repaired to the tune of 100.00, worked fine, for about 3 weeks!!!! then ZAP, no more green!. Took it back twice but still no go, finally just put it out on the sidewalk in fornt of my appartment and kissed my 500 bux goodbye and went and bought a 36" Sony WEGA. This thing ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Do not buy a Zenith Humboldt!!!!! they suck!!!!!
