Freezing

Post by AzN_ChRoNiC »

Ever since I did that Norton Optimization Wizard, my computer freezes a lot more and no, I did not backup the registry because I thought Norton was trust-worthy. Now, every time in CTRL+Alt+Del I click End Task and the Not Responding window pops up, it freezes! Before I could just click End Task and it will disappear, everything goes back to normal. Is there a way to fix this?

It just restores the registry settings you had, it wont mess with programs, but its probably too late now since it only saves it from the last couple of times you rebooted...all programs should integrate back into the registry if their info has been removed when they are used again

scanreg/restore is great, but your available backups are limited to a few boots. Once you have a good clean windows loaded, back up a good copy of your registry and make a hard copy of it for later use.
By the way I have had Norton troubles in the past, but I still use it.

So can I do it now? I can restore it back to May 1st, before it happened. Will it work? And will I lose my registry tweaks? I'm a newbie at this so please be specific and clear. I really want to fix this problem.

Thanx

Sorry about the delay. When you do a scanreg/restore your registry will be set back to it's state on the date that you choose. Unfortunately you will lose everything done after that restore date, in your case May 1st. It kinda sucks having to redo a bunch of stuff but It's really a good way to undo multiple problems.
If you had no problems on the May 1st backup then upon restore your system should be ok. Once you have got your system how you want it (tweeks and all) do a backup of your registry and keep it as your restore point to fall back on if any new problems pop up as you experiment with different settings.

its not going to format your drives...
BUT WAIT...please notice that we merely SUGGESTED it to solve your problems, im not PROMISING it will help anything!

EDIT...it only changes your registry, it wont crash your system and basically all programs will recreate themselves in it if any info of theirs has been removed

Good point LuiKhang, a restore will not "erase" programs on your hard drive and a later restore date is always available to use if you are unhappy with the May 1st restore. And yes an earlier registry can solve many problems, but it is not an absolute fix. It's a good starting point though. :) :)

A bit of advice from one noob to another....
you asked for help and you recieved it, there are no guarantees that these things will solve your particular problems.
You use them AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Also yelling at the ppl in this forum is a great idea, I doubt if anyone will help you again and from what I have seen, you have WAY too many problems.

My advice is that you grow the F*** up and quit burning bridges here or find another forum to annoy

I couldn't have said that any better, everyone here is here to either ask questions or help people solve their computer problems. Barking at them after everyone tried to help you won't get you anywhere, I suggest you don't get angry at people who try to HELP you.

I will also add, If I was you I would just format..It would solve your problem for sure. :)

It seems that there are more and more people who ask for help and then bash everyone who provided advice in the forums lately. Frustration and exasperation over a problem is one thing, but acting childish and throwing a fit is ridiculous.

I look at it like this: if you were brave enough to "tweak" your Registry in the first place, then don't freak when other things don't work to your liking.

Thanks guys, as a noob here I do appreciate the time others put in to help ppl out. I help when I can and try to do my best. It really erks me when some other idiot comes in and pisses everyone off with his Bullsh*t. If you look around the forum, this guy has posted crap like this all over and it's a joke. The people here have endured it and tried to help the poor lad even tho he continued to bash on them.

This is why I love this forum and the really great people who reside here.
