IT JUST DONT FRICKEN WORK..

i have a netgear cable/dsl security router RO318, never failed me, it's got 8 ports so you can get a good lan in on it. Also, I had to forward a bunch of ports into it so that i could host and play in servers.
-I know where there's a good party. They've got liquor in the front and poker in the rear-
on a linksys all you do is go to
http://192.168.1.1 normally and it asks for a Username and password. so put them in.j then at the top navigation go to advanced, then to forwarding... after that it will have a blue box with port rangges... put in the half life port you want.. (normal for TFC is 27015) and fill it in both blanks.. leave the middle thing with TCP and the other one. leave it set to both. then on the last thing it says
192.168.1.____ in that blank put in the last section of the IP. meaning. my network IP is 192.168.1.103. so if i want this to work on my pc. then i would put in 103 in that. its the last number... then just go and press Okay or save or wahtever....
this basically lets players go thru the Fire wall thru this Port and get to that IP. meaning. it will let them play on your half life server... it works pretty well, ive done it with UO and with Halflife/TFC..

WOW. netgear RP614
I have only used the netgear for about a day now and all I can say (after using the linksys) is WOW!!
Like I stated in previous posts, i have attempted everything, and contacted linksys in the attempt to clear up intermittent connection problems with my game server stemming from the router. nothing worked, and linksys admitted the router would not host the server, no matter what parameters i inputted.
The netgear has had none (not one) connection hiccup. lan latency is down, and usual players have noted a lower ping rate with this router. the setup interface for the RP614 is great! it allows many many options to tailor the router.
At 70-85$ this is HIGHLY recommended by me.
note: this router has only been out for less than a month.

Have had Netgears perform pretty well, better load handling than Linksys.
Had a Netopia R910 which was simply unbelievable performance wise...could hammer the hell out of it and it never broke a sweat, could never get it's CPU utilization past 35 % even! When other routers would be crumbling and skyrocketing pings. But not for the newbie to configure....it's Cisco like in it's setup and config...no easy web admin there!
Nexland ISB SOHO...very fast, very easy web admin, and actually marketing for gaming and it's high performance! Love mine!

no
dude, everything was attempted.
it is possible i got a bum router, right
now it is the only thing that makes sence.
im glad that the linksys worked for you and it
is not my intention to 'dis' linksys.
but I am happy with the performance of
this new router and will be back as soon as
i detect any trouble.
lastly, i did input all the excact same perameters
that i had in the linksys router for comparison
and have left it that way. And i have found none
of the trouble i was having with the linksys.
also my ping, and all the ususal suspects ping rate
dropped dramaticly..
lasty, lasty. the linksys had the latest firmware.

yeah it probley was a bad router, but i noticed you said the newest version of firmware i dont think weve upgraded our routers to the newest versions they are still runnning the versions that came on them almost 2 years ago. id die if you put one of the older versions from that time frame and it worked, but to be honest it probley wouldnt surpise me that much. well im glad you got your servers up

just an update
I am EXTREMELY happy with the new router.
No packet loss, no connection problems with the users, and my own ping to server is the best ever.
I recommend this router to any buyer in a search of a router in one BIG way. also the RP614 looks kinda cool too.
