I am curring using IE5 at the moment. Whenever I open up my browser and go to Tools->internet option->connection->lan setting it defaultly checked the proxy setting itself. How do i turn this off?

Sounds like you have some software running that was provided by your ISP that sets the proxy "on" at reboot. I'd find out where it is and remove it. Same thing happened with me when I was with @home. Took their software off and everything was good to go.
