Birthday gift, what you think?
My birthday is coming in a couple weeks and my beloved parents are asking me what I would like. Well how could I pass up a chance for a free piece of hardware but what should it be? This is where you all come in. This is what my setup currently is and I would like your opinions on what I should get. My guess is that they are not going to spend more then $200 and maybe closer to $150 since my brother has the same birthday as me. Anyway, here is what I have now.
1.2 T-bird
Asus A7V133
2x256mb RAM
Windows XP
Visiontek Geforce 3 ti200
SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum
Memorex CD-RW4224
Lite-ON 16xDVD
I'm sure I could get them to go half and half on something if it got to expensive. I know I need a new burner, mine is ancient but I would really like a new vid card but that would be pointless without getting a new cpu and mb which would also mean new ram and hs fan. Any creative ideas that you all would have would be great.
Thanks

well I would get a new burner for sure..Memorex = CRAP. Unless you don't use it alot, well then it's fine.
A new mobo and ram would do you good.

Ya get a new Mobo and DDR ram cuz your current system bottleneck is the crappy SDRam, you're not getting the full potential of your GF3, assuming that you play games a lot
A new burner is CHEAP anyways, 32x LiteOn is like $60 USD or somesh!t, and you can overclock it to 40x if you really want, so you might wanna ask for mobo, ram and burner

You need to build a foundation for future upgrades.....so mobo and RAM.
You can upgrade your CPU down the road, and your current vid card is certainly fine, isn't preventing you from playing any games in the now or in the next year.
If they won't spring for that, how about a nice 4.1 or 5.1 speaker system? Like a Creative Inspire 4.1, or FPS2000 system?

Thanks, all good ideas.
I was thinking about going with a new mb and ram, just jealous cause my roomie got a gf4 ti4600. Forgot to mention that I have the Logitech z-560's so no need for new speakers.
Thanks all and keep them coming if you have any other ideas. Tips on what brand of mb and ram to get are welcome as well. I have been checking out the epox for awhile and convinced my roomie to get the epox ep-8kha+ for his system and he loves it(my own personal guinee pig
). I am still unsure of which kind of ram to buy though

Well the epox isn't the BEST KT333 cuz of its toned down ram performance, but it is the best bang for the buck so to speak. Especially since it allows for high Vcore and Vdimm settings

yes youve got my interest, I thought the burner limits were detemined by the type of laser and so you could not do much software tweaking
