A question regarding downloading/uploading

Post by JimMorrison3169 »

Hi, I just have a few quick questions. I have SNET DSL that is 1.5/128, but usually at about 1.3/110...anyway I was on Direct Connect downloading DMB concerts, I was downloading at about 100K off this guy, people found out I had the latest concert and started to download off of me...I posted a message in the hub to wait until my downloads are completed because all the downloading off of me is slowing MY downloads down. This guy starts telling me that they're (down/up limits) completely unrelated and that there shouldn't be any difference while I was downloading...I've always thought that if someone was downloading off of me, it would slow my connection a bit? As soon as I closed the person's connection, my downloads rose again, but no one believed me! They thought I was just trying to be a leecher. One guy said it was because of the people accessing my hard drive and stuff like that... So what's the deal?...by the way how come I can't indent for paragraphs?

for every so many packets downloaded you have to send some so if somebody is taking all your upload you cant send all those packets, then your download slows down so that it has to send less packets so there is no packet loss

I also have SNET DSL and I allow 1 upload at a time because of the slowdown. Someone uploading from you takes alot of your download bandwidth. 1 upload isn't to bad on downloading, it's when you get 2 or more uploading that the real slowdown happens.
