Which router?

Post by CalMcGregor »

Oki, the good'ol'question.

I am on the run for a new cable router. I own a Linksys Toy and wanna start playing with real routers now (in other words: i hate my linksys after 8 months of struggling).

I am not afraid of telnet (hey, afterall, it's my job!!), so Netgear products are an option.

I am right now narrowing it down to 3-4 candidates:

Netgear RP114 (or a different Netgear?), Nexland ISB-Soho (saw it for $115), SMC7004ABR or maybe (!) a D-Link 704 (whereas i didn't hear lots of good stuff about D-Link).

Price range is $0-$130. I just can't spend more than that.

My main concern is a good Wan-Lan, Lan-Lan speed/performance ratio, something that my linksys is totally missing.

Which of the above has a good Wan interface AND a good switch?

Oh, and i'd like to be able to play my occasional Halflife session online as well as maybe host a server....

i contacted nexland and asked if they are the only resellers and they gave me a website of provantage.com and they have it for $114.50 plus 5.50 shipping. It ships directly from nexland though.
