missing Op system prob

Post by jlwggns »

i have a compaq 2000/4000 server.
dual p 166 4 scsi drives.

when i first got it the drives wouldn't show up so i started swapping them out and going thru setup till i finally got it to boot to novel server.

after that i'm not sure what happened but now when it try to boot i get "missing operating system" and it lockes up.

i can boot up with a startup disk and still see all the files.

i was wondering if using the sys command will it boot back up.

btw i forgot the command line entry to put the sys files back on a drive.

i'm booted on A:\ using a win95 startup disk for now.

thanks

Make sure the BIOS is pointing to the drive with the OS.

Has this setup worked before? usally with SCSI drives that error is due to bad termniation.

What do you have for scsi devices? just the 4 hard drives or cdrom's as well?

just make sure the card is terminated and the last device on the chain is terminated as well (nothing in between). Cables with the terminator at the end is the best thing to use, then that way you don't have to putz around setting up termination on the drive/s on the end's.
