reset tweaks and default...

Post by cbrock007 »

Quick question...

I have added different tweaks and settings over the last two months, which include patches, registry tweaks and programs. I am trying to get back to the default settings for Windows 98 so I can start from scratch.

In the TCP optimizer, when one restores window settings, does it restore it to what it was before the program was installed or to what the win98 defaults are?

Does deleting the settings in cablenut the same?

Or should I reinstall the win98 software? Delete my network adapters and reinstall?

Thanks for any advice...

By the way, I am doing this because up until about 4 hours ago, I thought my performance problem was on my end when it was due to Charter pipeline capping me way to low...(hopefully). I will know in the morning...

The easiest way to do it is to go to Start > Run and type "Scanreg /restore" . Your tweaks will be removed, and your settings will go back to the win98 defaults.

Using cablenut's remove feature will only delete cablenut tweaks and changes you have made with that program.

After 2 months of tweaking, unless you had backed up the original registry to a different location, then restoring will not work.

Having all fields blank in Cablenut will return everything back to Windows Default.

For the SG Optimizer it will restore only the Windows Default settings.

What about reinstalling windows? Would that work? I'm trying to start from as close to scratch as I can in regards to the settings. Any ideas? I did have a backup from the 1st of December, but I can't remember if I modified anything before that. This computer is only about 6 weeks old...

Thanks...

Yes, reinstalling windows will work, and no, and I don't recommand it. Imo, SG Optimizer can do what you want to do in less than 2 seconds, and there's really no need to go through 1 and a half hour waiting since the Computer is only 6 weeks old.

Yes, restoring the way I said would have worked actually, but nevermind. Glad we could help.
