System File Checker
System File Checker
What is the "System File Checker"? I have done it just now and the thing said that it found at least 20 or so files to be currupted. I wrote them all down. My system it working with out flaws now. I am confused as to what this thing does. I can reply and put all the files down if needed. One that was worring me was "secur32.dll" That was one of them. And I regularly go to windows update.

What System File Checker is, is a way to see what files have changed since your original installation files were put on the drive. Somewhat like a history of changes made since day one.
As for the corrupt files, have you done any major software upgrades or changes lately that might have changed what your seeing?
What Operating System is this? Win 98se, Me, etc. Do you have the Cabinet (Cabs) files installed on the hard drive?
If you would, copy and paste or whatever, those that are coming up corrupt and we will see what you have going on there.

How true, MS Office 2000 installs a new xsetup.dll and it gets reported as corrupt as well, even though it isn't.Originally posted by 64bit
If this is win98 that is infamous for false postive corruption after IE upgrades (secur32.dll). I wouldn't worry to much.
Many files can be reported as corrupt when they aren't, be careful. Leave it as is if everything is running ok.
