Woa WTF???? Apparently this expensive replacement I got in place of the Creative 12x DVD 1241E not only is faster, but works at ATA/UDMA66 (I just put in the 80wire/40connector cable in) I'll post some benchs when I get home. All the graces of a lunch period, hungry, but the excitement is too much!
BTW This drive doesn't support RAW+96byte read either, but I hope the firmware upgrade may change this as the Clone CD gave me some wierd logging of the drive having it not on or something.
BTW Jesus, you think a school T1 connection would be fast, but HELL no! It's like almost as slow as my old dial up connection.

doesn't a T1 share the connectoin with all computers, like cable? if so, then thats why it's slow....skool doesn't want to pay big money just so students can chat on speedguide instead of doing work!!!! LOL
with teh ATA66, that means the CD ROM is running at double the speed, right? so 16x, on ata33, is actually 32x on ata66? or does it not work like that.
The UDMA just allows for the drive to transfer data at a peak of 66mb a sec. What it allows for is a higher transfer rate of data, which should give the 16X more indexing and transfer bandwidth.
So in theory this should all work. better then the udma 33 drives. I'll post benchs tonight.

This is an old benchmark. That's why I bought the Pioneer. While it wont operate at ata-66, the drive is designed to look like an ata-66 device to the mobo. That way if you have to slave it to a hard drive it wont slow down your IDE chain. The Pioneer is the only one I could find that does that. Kinda trippy when your booting and the bios see's it as ata-66 It does seem faster than other cd-roms to me.

repost some benchs showing the subsequencial speed, btw Bala, it's atleast a 1 gb file on DVD.

Here's an updated benchmark for you. I unchecked Bypass Windows Disk Cache in the module options for better performance.
terrancelam, not trying to high-jack your thread, but how are you getting XP to play your DVD's? I have the Radeon 64 VIVO and I can't get it to play DVD's.
Ho Ho Ho !!!! I know where all the bad girls live.
The above post is mine, I forgot I was logged on as Santa Claus.
Anybody want to play Santa this year at SpeedGuide? PM me and I'll give you the password, and you can be the secret Santa. I had lots of fun last year doing it, but everybody knows it's me now.
Sliding down the banister of life ..........................
looks like I'll have to do the same and uncheck windows bypass.
As for playing DVDs, there are a few tricky things going on. Have you set your currently DVD region yet? There are some region free firmware patches floating around on the net, let me look to see if I can still find it, for the Pioneer 116S. Reduces the DVD region choices to 2, but hey, it makes it region free. Also right now I'm using Power DVD to watch my movies, it's a great program and pm me for further information.
