Good overclocking motherboard

Post by Joebeme2 »

Hi, I am looking to purchase a new motherboard and processor (looking for 1.4ghz athlon or thunderbird) and i had a few questions. What is a good motherboard that i can use with dimm sdram and is still good for overclocking. I plan on using the dragon orb to cool my processor but, are there any better alternatives that i should consider? Thanks in advance for your time and help.

I highly recommend the EPoX 8K7A+ or 8K7A.

They have dip switch settings for CPU Multiplier (8.5 through 12.5).

They also have the ability to change the FSB by as little as 1MHz in the BIOS.

I put my 1400 to 1533 by changing the multiplier from 10.5 (default) to 11.5 on this board.

Don't forget your Arctic Silver II!

BTW, I'm using a Koolance Case www.koolance.com

also a good motherboard is the abit kt7a kt133a chipset ,it has alot of overclocking potential, this is the motherboard i have...i allready overclocked my newly amd 1.4GHz to 1.6GHz @29 degrees celsius idle and 38 degrees full load, yeah as BoBo Daddy suggestion don't forget your arctic silver II thermal paste and don't forget to only put a thin layer of thermal grease only on the core, i mean thin.....don't forget a good HSF , like i have a thermalright sk-6 w/ 8000rpm 50cfm fan

this motherboard is stable as hell, and the abit websites keeps you up to date with new bios files so you can update your bios and also new motherboard drivers to keep your motherboard stable...this motherboard hasn't failed me yet :) i had it for quite a while now and i only have 2 regrets on it, buying a DDR motherboard (KG-7 raid) and Crucial DDR memory...other than that its all good...seriously though i should've gotten a DDR motherboard :(

why get a 200FSB one when you can get a 266FSB CPU for cheaper, plus a 266FSB is faster than a 200FSB here is the same site but the 266FSB version:

http://www.econopc.com/applications/sea ... AMDTB14266

this CPU is compatible with that motherboard
