opening microsoft word Doc files

Post by jlwggns »

a friend has some important data on a floppy to take to a attorney that was saved using Microsoft Word and the DOC file will not open. explorer see's it and says it around 47,000 bytes. i was going to use explorer to open it to see if any data was recoverable but it's associated with Ms Word so i can't open it with notepad. is there any way we might be able to see if the data is recoverable?

if it could be printed out at least that would be a world of help.

thanks

If it was created with MSWord it will open in MSWord for best results.
But if you just want the text, you could open it in Wordpad. There'll be some unusual looking text because of the way MSWord saves info, but you should be able to read the other text as well.

First copy it from the floppy to your PC somewhere (just works better no reason) Right click the file while holding the [shift] button down, then select "open with" from the menu. When the window pops up scroll to and select Wordpad.
Make sure you uncheck the little box "always open etc etc" then hit the "ok" button.
