CD-RW upgrade???

Post by crazyjw1971 »

I have an Acer 8432A 8x4x32 CDRW drive currently. I want to get a faster CDRW drive (Am I obsessed?) and I'm looking at the new (I guess it's new) 1208A (12x8x32x). I also stumbled across a drive made by a company called "LITEON" that makes a 16x10x32 drive. Has anyone heard of them? Or can anybody recommend another brand? I wanted to stay with Acer since I have an Acer 1640A DVD-ROM drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

Just my opinion, but it would seem waste of money. I dont know what you're buring, but a lot of things shouldnt be burned that fast. If you're copying music cd's, a faster burner would be excellant. If you're converting mp3's on the fly, I have to wonder if faster then 8x would give you crappy sound. Also, copying retail cd's would probably give you problems that fast as well. There are some rumored issues with the IDE plextor, but if you can afford it; it is simply the best. There is nothing that burner wont copy with cd clone if you read to HD at 2x and write at 2x.

The speed of the processor would be a better indicator of the quality of on the fly MP3 conversion. Setting up adequate buffering is also important. Personally, I convert my MP3s first, then burn.

I have a 16X and it works excellent in all facets.

Well yes I have heard of Lite On they make a lot of cdroms for the Oem that I work for, and they suck they are not good cdroms (at least in my mind) stick with better know brands (because there generally better).
