Earned AA going on to a 4 year now.

So I got my Associate of Arts from the local community college, and now I am transferring to Montana State, where I'll focus on a obtaining a masters in statistical mathematics. I did want to get a degree in both English and Math, but the longer I am in school the more money it is costing me, so I may have to make compromises. However, once I get there I may still be able to focus on both; we'll see.

I was also wondering if anyone could help me understand how to get Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification, preferably without spending a lot of money. It looks like this is something I will want on my resume. Is that something I can just study for and then take a test?

Congrats on the AA degree, and good luck going forward !
As for certifications, you can take an online course to help prepare for tests, Udemy has a bunch of those, for example.

P.S. My wife is a mathematics professor, btw.

Thanks, guys. I was 5 credits short of getting a dual Associates for both Art and Science, but staying another semester for those 5 credits was not practical, so I set up the transfer to Montana State and went with an Associate of Arts. Even though it is called Arts it really is general studies, perhaps a bit heavy on writing and math.

I think the oddest part, is at the 4 year college I am going to have to live in the dorms. That means I will have to share a room with someone that is prob. half my age. I have not had to share a room since I was a kid.

You may be able to wiggle your way out of living in a dorm, idk, they try to fill their dorms that way I think, under the pretense it is beneficial to first year students.

AS is probably worth the additional 5 credit hours, as it opens up a number of science/engineering majors to you. You can probably take the hours at Montana State though.

They do have single room options, but they are like 2k extra for the school year. I'll just have to suck it up, and live in the dorms.

I am now officially a Cat and I have the card to prove it. I guess this means I now know which Montana college football team to root for, if I ever happen to be watching college football.

I passed their level 5 Mplex test, which was a math placement test. This allows me to take calculus and statistics classes. It seemed to surprise them that I passed it, but it shouldn't since I am a transfer student with some upper level math classes already under my belt.

I didn't have to take a writing placement test, and since I have the associates degree I won't have to take any core classes. So it seem that degree is doing something for me, it is making sure I don't have to repeat any core classes.

I am so glad to be done with core classes.

Hey P, I may have to call D as I am helping my gf get her BSN. (She has her Associates and is an RN, however all RN's must have BSN by 2020) As you know, I have taught myself the things that I know best such as languages, general contractor and computers, so I haven't had any formal classes in 40 years. These are full 16 week semester courses in 5 weeks, so they are jammed. I haven't had any problems with the other courses, however this Statistics course in a PITA!!! I forgot about D being a math professor. Tell her to take me off of call block!!!!

She teaches Monday through Thursday this semester, mornings are a bit hectic, but you can call anytime, you know that!
