What free anti-virus do you find best?
For the life of me I can’t find my virus disc. I don’t want to surf the web completely unprotected, that’s like playing Russian roulette.
So until the magical disc fairy brings my disc back, what freebie virus software do you think I should use?

Sadly no.RoundEye wrote:I forgot to add I have WinXP 64 bit.
Does it work on that?
I can only think of AVG or Avast really.
or Avira if you don't have any kind of cracked software or something of that sort. Avira is nice for those absolutely clean computers but it sucks at keeping the exception rules.
Panda is also nice but requires internet connection I believe and also there's no way to add exceptions and it seems to remove things automatically even if it's a false positive.

Microsoft Security Essentials is great, I use this on a lot of workstations.
Avast! is also good.
I've also heard good things about Avira AntiVir, I have not used that too much.

You don't want to run more than 1 antivirus package on your system, the real time file protection of each antivirus get step on the toes of the other, and result in less effectiveness....or cancel each other out, cause system errors, lead to file corruption....lots of things that you don't want.

I will agree here.I think MSE has taken the top spot for free antivirus/antisyware.In fact I use it rather than pay for something these days.I switched over from Avast free and before that I used AVG for years but now it is all MSE!

Only AVG has a free one out of those you listed..the OP asked for "free" ones.Mr Alfred wrote:Hmm..Here are some best. AVG Antivirus 2013, G Data Antivirus 2013, Norton Antivirus 2013, F-Secure Antivirus 2013 and last but least is Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013.
Kaspersky would be one of the best "paid for" ones you can purchase, along with Eset, and G-Data.
Free ones....Microsoft Security Essentials, Panda Cloud, Avast, BitDefenders new one...those are good "free" ones. MSE being the only free one legal for a small business of 10 or less desktop workstations to be able to use.
