Greetings,
In the last few days when trying to update my Microsoft Security Essentials which had shut off, I was given the Windows installer prompt and told, "the path cannot be found or it is on a network resource that is unavailable. Can someone please advise me on this ?
Many thanks - Narrative

Do you know why it was shut off? IOW, did you shut it off or did it just shut off...?narrative wrote:Greetings,

If you didn't shut it off , then malware probably did... If so, you would probably want to use an online scanner from a reputable place and some other progs in combination as the baddies that I have come accross that shut MSE off, are some bad ones indeed... Very hard to get rid off... Root kits and such...
If you shut it off and it corrupted, go here

and follow the instructions to completely uninstall then get it from here
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... essentials
and reinstall.
If you did not shut it off, let us know as I may be able to help you expedite the cleaning...
