Just switched to Uverse...Speed ok but wired Lan in 10/100 Have a question.

Post by BOWTYE8 »

Was running Comcast with and had my own Belkin N giga Router.
Uverse supplies their own Wireless router. Its G and only 10/100 vs 10/100/1000.

I share 2 computers(2nd PC type of home server) Is it ok to still use the Belkin for the gigabyte wired lan? I asume I could still use it for the wireless connections as well?

Just plug it into the ATT router/modem?

Thanks
Dennis

You can connect the WAN port of your Belkin to one of the LAN ports of the 2Wire gateway. Have a PC behind the Belkin. Log into the 2Wires web admin at 192.168.1.254. password is on sticker on the bottom. Go to settings, firewall, applications pinholes DMZ....you'll see a "DMZ Plus" mode...and you should see your Belkins host name listed..put that in the DMZ plus mode. Now the Belkin will pickup your public IP address...effectively bypassing the NAT/Firewall of the 2Wire. Disable wireless on the 2Wire also.

Thanks yeolde
It seems you saying I will be running the Belkin as the main then??
Can I just connect the 2 wired PC's to the belkin for tx'ng data via gigaport. I asume both PC will still have internet.
I can leave the 2wire as is for all the wireless pc's???

Yes...basically the steps I listed will have the 2Wire gateway utilize the Belkin as the router..not itself.
And I mentioned disable the wireless on the 2Wire..you will be using your Belkin.
